LGBT sexual health services
samedaydoctor Canary Wharf offers a full Private Onsite STD testing and treatment service.
There is a definite lack of Private Sexual health Services aimed at sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening for the LGBT community in East London and we would like to rectify this.
Often gay men or women find it difficult to discuss their sexual habits with their own GP’s, for fear of discrimination. This means that they often lose out on the service that they deserve.
We would like to rectify this situation and assure all our patients that they can feel free to discuss any particular concerns. – Doctor WC
We do not judge and are happy to give information on sexual health including:
- sexual practices
- safe sex
- HIV (human immunodeficiency virus)
- PEP (Post Exposure Prophylaxis)
- as well as safe use of recreational drugs.
We at samedaydoctor Canary Wharf aim to make sure that everyone can feel relaxed and safe in the knowledge that we take your health seriously and so enable us to address any specific concerns you might have
STI’s in heterosexuals and homosexuals are the same but because of different sexual practices there are different issues that need to be addressed.
In particular for our MSM (men who have sex with men) patients we can offer a discreet and completely confidential service and tailor your screening to your particular circumstances.
We know that there are other STI risks that are much higher when you are MSM, in particular in the past few years there has been a marked increase in the diagnosis of Hepatitis C, as well as HIV and Hepatitis C co –infection. This type of co-infection is much more common in the MSM community and need to be screened for separately.
We also advise that all our MSM patients get tested for Hepatitis B and if found to be negative we suggest that you get vaccinated against this potentially life threatening disease. We can do the vaccinations on site.
In addition we have also seen an increase in sexual infections such as LGV, (Lymphogranuloma venereum), a serious disease caused by a strain of Chlamydia and usually passed on through unprotected anal sex. It can cause severe symptoms including rectal inflammation, ulceration, bleeding and enlarged lymph nodes.
All of these diseases would be missed if we did not specifically screen for them and therefore we want our patients to feel comfortable enough to come and discuss any concerns they might have.
In addition there are other risks associated with sexual practices such as rimming and fisting that you can discuss in complete confidentiality with our doctor who has many years’ experience of working with the LGBT community in London.
